PLANT OF THE WEEK: Fagus sylvatica 'Tri Color'
A spectacular addition to any landscape would be a 'Tri Color" Beech. Tri Color Beech leaf This slow growing, broad pyramidal tree grows 25-40' tall and about 50' wide with weeping branches that can touch the ground. The wavy leaves are dark maroon except in the spring when they are edged with white and pink and the fall when they are coppery in color. And if that's not enough color the bark is smooth and silvery year round. Leaves tend to hold into the winter for longer interest. Plant 'Tri Color' in full or dapple sun but be carefull because leaves can burn in hot sun or drying winds if not hydrated well enough. Very tolerant of a variety of soil types but salty soils can stunt growth. For a perfect contrast, plant this tree among evergreens. It's awesome. Zone 4.
